Following on the success of its other SUVs, Mercedes brought
the GLK compact SUV to the market in 2009. Sharing the C-Class platform, the
2011
GLK350 is powered by a 3.5-liter, V-6 engine a seven-speed automatic
transmission. The automaker’s 4MATIC full-time four wheel drive is optional.
Among the standard features are 19-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, roof rails,
privacy glass and chrome details. New for 2011 is the AMG Sport Package, which
includes deeper front and rear aprons, 20-inch AMG wheels, LED daytime running
lights and aluminum roof rails. An optional Keyless-Go system unlocks the doors
and starts the car at the push of button while the key remains in pocket or
handbag. The GLK’s size is ideal for navigating Baltimore and 4MATIC allows you

Standard Agility Control provides the benefit of soft and
stiff dampers by using a hydraulic by-pass valve to damp road noise and tire
vibration, while still providing the responsiveness of a stiffer suspension
system on bumpy or uneven roads. The V-6 engine develops 268 horsepower and 258
lb.-ft. of torque in both the GLK350 and GLK350 4MATIC. With 7.9 inches of
ground clearance the GLK has no trouble leaving the pavement. As with every
Mercedes-Benz, the GLK350 comes standard with a full complement of safety
equipment, including stability and traction control, antilock brakes with
electronic force distribution and brake assist, and nine airbags, including a
driver’s knee and pelvic airbags. Making it so the driver is nearly enveloped
in airbags demonstrates a commitment to safety by Mercedes. Maryland

In addition to the three analog gauges in the instrument
cluster, the GLK features a 4.5-inch display in the speedometer linked to a
12-button, multi-function steering wheel that can access a variety of
information, including phone and audio system information – radio station, CD
track, MP3 playlist – along with trip computer information. An electronic
controller on the console provides quick operation of many functions without
the need for a lot of separate buttons and switches. Turning and pressing the
knob brings up menus and sub-menus on the center-console display, providing
access to audio and navigation systems and integrated phone. The controller
also links to switches on the steering wheel.

An 80-watt Audio 20 system is standard on the GLK350 and
includes eight speakers, single CD slot, telephone keypad, MP3 jack in the
glove box and Bluetooth interface. Also available is an optional harman/kardon
LOGIC7 Dolby Digital/DTS 5.1 discrete multi-channel surround system with 600
watts and 11 speakers and a sub-woofer. The Multimedia package includes a
MusicRegister feature with 6GB hard drive for storage of up to a 1,000 audio
tracks. A Gracenote database automatically identifies a track and provides
title, artist and album name. The system can also play DVD audio and music
